Independance Day 2011

We started out our 4th of July Weekend, with a bang, literally.:)  The Saturday before the 4th, Dave was trimming our lawn in the am, when the trimmer hit a rock and propelled it into the window right by our front door, shattering it.  Luckily, when it shattered, none of the pieces fell out, so no one got hurt.  But, we did end up canceling plans to get together for a pool party at a friend's house.  So, to make it up to the kids, we turned on the sprinklers for a couple minutes and let the kids run around.  This was their first time running through the sprinklers, and they loved it!

It was chilly water, but the kids didn't let that stop them.:)

On Independance Day, we went over to the Ballard Locks, to see all the boats.  We had heard this was interesting, but had yet to go visit.

Here are some of the boats waiting for the water to rise, going from the Puget Sound(sea water) to Lake Union(fresh water).

Scott counted the ships as they passed by us, and I think he counted 63 ships that day.  And all of them were personal boats (or I should say yachts, for some of them).  It was interesting to see.  Although, Dylan was a little disappointed that we didn't get to actually RIDE any of the boats...:)

Then we walked over to their Salmon Ladder, and saw the big fish swimming upstream.  Salmon is one of Madeline's very favorite things to eat.:)

Overall, it as a nice 4th, but not very eventful.  Since Dave worked the next day, we didn't stay up late to see any fireworks.  And I also realized that day, that very few of our 4th of July's since we have been married have been spent without extended family.  Hopefully we can continue that tradition next year.:)
