This is a picture of the SHRLOE club officers and faculty advisors. SHRLOE is the Strategic HR, Leadership, and Organizational Effectiveness Group at Cornell. We organized the leadership trek to Westpoint and had about 45 grad students from the Johnson School (MBA) and the ILR School (MILR) attend.
The cadets line up in formation before going into the mess hall for meals. It is amazing to watch them march into the mess hall. All 4,000 cadets march into the mess hall and are seated at their table with food in hand in less than five minutes.
These cannons date back to the Civil War. The cannon on the left was the first cannon fired and the one on the right the last cannon fired during the Civil War.
Lunch at the Westpoint Officers Club. It was a nice day and we ate outside on the patio with a view overlooking the Hudson River.

The Westpoint cadets have a tradition of rubbing this statue's head for good luck before taking an exam. Some people think the statue is of Abraham Lincoln but no one is sure because the face has been rubbed off over time.

Chow time! The mess hall is enormous and seats all 4,000 cadets at the same time.
Part of the Westpoint experience is the hazing of the freshman cadets (plebes). The plebes are required to entertain the upper classmen at each meal with a minidrama involving the condiments at the table. (Will there be a romance between Mrs. Dash and the Nesquick bunny?) If the plebes don't meet the expectations of their senior students in this task or others, they could go hungry, get less sleep, or do lots of pushups!

At Westpoint the cadets get a great education. They also do a lot of physical activities like boxing, gymnastics, swimming, and close quarters combat. A typical cadet can do about 100 pushups in two minutes and is expected to be able to run two miles in the 10-12 minute range.
These two cadets took a break from their busy schedule to show us around the place. These guys were very impressive! It is very hard to get into Westpoint. They look at highschool GPA, SAT test scores, extra curricular activities and physical fitness. You also have to be sponsored by your local congressman or senator.

What an incredibly awesome trip! I would have loved to be there. The campus and cadets were most impressive. You looked pretty good yourself,Dave. :-)
